To Hear the Word of God | Sermon

Pastor Bramwell preached this sermon on Luke 5:1 for the Fifth Sunday after Trinity, July 17, 2022.

St. Mark Lutheran Church posts Rev. Bramwell’s sermons online for the sake of the members of our local congregation unable to gather with us due to illness or work, etc. This resource is not intended to encourage refraining from being gathered around God’s Word and Sacraments in person. Matthew 18:20 and Hebrews 10:25 make it clear that God’s Divine Service is meant to be experienced physically with other Christians.

We give thanks to God that these sermons are a blessing to you and pray that if you’re in Humboldt County, you will join us on Sunday mornings at 10:30 AM as God wills. (See the map below for directions.) If you’re not within driving distance of Ferndale CA, we encourage you to use the Church Locator at LCMS.org to find a church near you so you can gather with the communion of saints in your area.

God Revealed the Definition of Woman – Cross Defense

The Church of England has a hard time defining the word woman while an ex-trans teenage girl recognizes the irreversible damage she did to her womanly body. Pastor Bramwell discusses these two reports before answering questions about women teaching the “Pastor’s Bible Study” and the hiddenness of Christ in a woman’s gentle and quiet spirit.

Blessed Not Cursed | Sermon

Pastor Bramwell preached this sermon on Romans 12:14 for the Fourth Sunday after Trinity, July 10, 2022.

Sermon Notes

Why is Romans 12:14 this morning’s sermon text?

We were hungry for __________________, so Jesus died on the cross to give us His holy body to eat. You were thirsty for ___________________, so Jesus died on the cross to give you His saving blood to drink.

What type of culture has the prince of this world (Satan) created in our country? To what does it make us averse?

Ignatius of Antioch was martyred in Rome during the Trajan persecution. He wrote a letter to the Roman churches insisting they not interfere with his suffering for Christ. Consider his words quoted in the sermon. Are they shocking? Could you say the same sort of thing, if you were being persecuted?

How does Jesus fulfill Romans 12:20-21 for us in Holy Communion?
