With the Mouth One Confesses and Is Saved | Sermon

Pastor Bramwell preached this sermon on Romans 10:9-10 on the Twelfth Sunday after Trinity, September 4, 2022.

What are you doing every time you take Communion?

Why was St. Hermenigild killed?

When was the last time you confessed your faith to someone in your life?

Which one requires you to do the work, confessing your faith in Jesus or not confessing your faith in Jesus?

When you confess your belief in Jesus who is doing the work?

Who opened the ears and released the tongue of the deaf man?

Who opened your ears and released your tongue?

Education: This Week’s Sign and Pastor’s September Letter

Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices. For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them; but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.

Proverbs 1:29-33

This week’s sign recognizes that true knowledge begins with and involves Christ. When our schools promote the LGBTQ agenda and teach critical race theory, when they actively redact history to omit Christ’s positive influence on the world through the innovative and brilliant services of Christians throughout history, choosing instead to instruct our children in the latest scientism derived from evolution’s godlessness, when they remove even the mention of the Bible from English and History classes and fly rainbow flags in biology classrooms, when they villainize the great contributors to the Western world because their sins are currently politically incorrect, while propping up other sinners to hero-status because they have a socially acceptable skin color, bedroom behavior, or victimization classification, then our kids are receiving a worldview that hate’s the Lord. Christians recognize that America’s public school system is teaching our children to despise God’s counsel, and so our choices counter this evil as we intentionally and continually return to the study of the Holy Scriptures… for ourselves, for our children, and for all of our neighbors. See the following video.

Tax Collectors | Sermon

Pastor Bramwell preached this sermon on Luke 18:9-14 on the Eleventh Sunday after Trinity, August 28, 2022.

What are some words that describe false piety?

What words describe true piety?

What is Jesus’ answer to the Pharisees when they ask him why he eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners? (Luke 5:31)

Money is often a stumbling block to Christian discipleship. Did having wealth stop Levi and Zacchaeus from becoming Christians? (Read about Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10)

Consider what sins you have committed. Repent of them, asking the Lord to forgive you, and trust that like the tax collector, you have been justified and exalted by Christ. You. Are. Forgiven.

Since in your baptismal faith you are defined by Christ, what no longer defines you?

Wokeness is the Antithesis of Christianity – Cross Defense

Did you know that in today’s woke culture Christians are the heretics? Listen to a voice message that says as much before Pastor Bramwell addresses nine wicked spiritual effects that wokeness has on Christianity. Francis Schaeffer once observed that the spiritual battle is bigger than Christians often realize. He was right!

God Bless Humboldt Farmers – This Week’s Sign

You [God] cause the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth and wine to gladden the heart of man, oil to make his face shine and bread to strengthen man’s heart.

Psalm 104:14-15

The doctrine of vocation helps us understand and appreciate our participation in the blessings God bestows on our neighbors. One such vocation is the farmer. In this time of food shortages, supply chain problems, and high prices at the grocery store, we give thanks and praise to God for the work He has called farmers to do, especially those in our area. May He continue to bless them!

Righteousness and the Law | Sermon

Pastor Bramwell preached this sermon on Jeremiah 7:1-11 on the Tenth Sunday after Trinity, August 21, 2022.

What kind of words did God’s people trust in Jeremiah’s day, to no avail? (Jer. 7:8)

Have you ever, and/or do you now take God and the cross of Christ for granted? Jeremiah’s warning is for you, too! Repent.

Which Commandments does the Lord cite in Jeremiah 7:9-10? (The definitions included in the sermon are found in Luther’s Small Catechism.)

Does God care about our sins?

What chapter(s) of Romans helps us understand our Jeremiah reading? Why are you not a hypocrite when you point to Christ’s crucifixion for the forgiveness of sins?

From Climate Crisis to Faith Crisis – Cross Defense

World leaders want us to take action in the face of a global climate crisis. Okay, so why aren’t self-professing Christians packing into pews to hear and receive God’s Word and Sacraments? Pastor Bramwell takes us on a tour of Scripture verses that should inform our behavior in the face of a worldwide climate emergency. If we’re facing a climate crisis, then a mass crisis of faith is even more disconcerting.

Rest and Resist

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:2

[Y]ou yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:5

We rest from the false teachings of woke America every time we gather around God’s Word and Sacrament. In this rest, our Lord equips us with what we need to know in order to resist the sinful and godless influences all around us. Not only that. He also gives us the power to resist evil by giving us His Holy Spirit. He does this for each of us. Together we are built into a community (the church), which, by God’s design, shapes the culture around us, bringing truth to the lies and light to the darkness. However, if we resist God and stay away from His Word and Sacrament, which He promises to give to us when we are gathered together in His name (Matthew 18:20), we remain wearied by the world’s ways unequipped to combat the advances of our adversary.

How did the first generation of Christians resist the evil of their day and convert their culture? By “not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:25).

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Acts 2:42
