Festival of St. Andrew, Apostle | November 30

Who is Andrew?
- Among the first of the Lord’s disciples.
- A fisherman from Bethsaida in Galilee. The son of Jonah and brother of Simon Peter. (Mark 1:16)
- A follower of John the Baptist (John 1:41-42)
- Tradition teaches that he was martyred by crucifixion in Patras in Achaea. He felt unworthy to die on the same kind of cross as Jesus and pleaded to be crucified on an X-shaped cross.
- St. Andrew’s Day determines the beginning of Advent. The first Sunday falls on the Sunday nearest to his festival.
Almighty God, by Your grace the apostle Andrew obeyed the call of Your Son to be a disciple. Grant us also to follow the same Lord Jesus Christ in heart and life, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen!
