Agnus Dei

H-7 Advent 4 (Jn 1.19-28)The words of John the Baptist, the Agnus Dei (which means Lamb of God), confesses the mercy and peace that we receive from the Lamb of God in His Supper. We come to the Lord’s Table hungry and thirsty for redemption and He feeds us with His very body and refreshes us with His very blood. As Luther reminds us, “Our Lord is at once and the same time chef, cook, butler, host, and food” (John 1:29; Isaiah 53:7; Ephesians 2:13-17; 1 Peter 1:19-20; Revelation – more than thirty references including 5:6, 12, 14:4, 15:3, 17:14, 19:9, 21:23).
